Ransomware
What is Ransomware?
A Ransomware Program or a crimeware, just as the name implies once downloaded on to your computer system takes over completely, hijacks your computer system until your follow the instructions given you by the program. The instructions and messages are usually for you to purchase a program or make some payments. After you have complied you may sometimes get instructions or codes to restore your system or you are left with the problems unresolved. The danger of paying such ransom is that you are open to Identity fraud.
How does A Ransom Program Work?
A ransom program will typically:
- Hijack all your executable programs so you can’t get rid of it.
- Hijack your Internet browser and keep directing you to the page where you can pay the ransom.
- Keep terminating your programs so you can no longer operate or function unless you comply with the ransom instruction
Way Forward
It is advisable not to pay the ransom since you may be endangering yourself more by giving out your financial and personal information to criminals.
Try and get rid of the malware using a legitimate security program, if this proves difficult, get professional help. If along the line you loose some data or have to repair your computer system, it will be a more acceptable option than giving your personal details to criminals.
